Mirador Law managing partner Megan T. Burns received the Justice, Advocacy & Community Leadership Award at Coliseum 60, a community celebration marking 60 years of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The award was presented on September 18, 2026 during the evening’s Legacy & Community Honors program at Youth UpRising, 8711 MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland.
The organizers recognized Megan for her commitment to advocacy, access to justice and leadership within Oakland and Alameda County’s legal community. For a trial lawyer who lives in Oakland and has built her career in Alameda County, it is recognition from the community she serves.
Coliseum 60 is a VillageGIVE community initiative, hosted by Youth UpRising, that commemorates 60 years of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The free event brought together residents, organizations and local leaders to honor the people, work, culture and memories that built the Coliseum’s legacy, and to connect the community around continued investment after the day itself. You can read more on the Coliseum 60 website.
For six decades the Coliseum has been a place where Oakland and the wider county come together. The evening’s honors recognized people and institutions whose work has helped shape the community around it.
In its letter to Megan, Coliseum 60 pointed to four parts of her work.
The letter also noted Megan as an Oakland resident whose professional service is rooted in Alameda County. That is true of the firm as a whole. Mirador Law has been trying cases in the East Bay since 1973, working from its Pleasanton headquarters with offices in Oakland and Newark, and serving clients across Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro, Union City and the Tri-Valley.
Awards from bar associations and trial lawyer groups mean a great deal to the firm. An award from a community celebration means something different: it comes from the people that Mirador Law is here to serve.
Today Megan’s practice centers on people and families whose lives have been changed by serious harm. With partner Emily L. Dahm, she represents clients from the firm’s Oakland office and across the East Bay in:
The Coliseum 60 honor follows other recent recognition of that work. This year Megan and Emily were named finalists for CAOC’s 2026 Street Fighter of the Year award, and both were named to the 2026 Super Lawyers list. In every matter, the goal is the same: to pursue the full compensation our clients are entitled to under California law.
Access to justice often comes down to timing. If you or a family member has been seriously injured in Oakland or anywhere in Alameda County, these three points matter most.
The general deadline is two years. Most California personal injury claims must be filed within two years of the injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. However, because there can be different rules depending on the type of case, it is best to consult with an attorney as soon as possible.
Claims against public entities move much faster. If the injury involved the City of Oakland, Alameda County, AC Transit, BART, a public school district or public property, you generally must file an administrative claim with that entity within six months under Government Code section 911.2. If the claim is rejected in writing, Government Code section 945.6 generally gives you six months from that notice to file suit.
Shared fault does not end your case. California follows pure comparative negligence. If you are found partly responsible, your recovery is reduced by your share of fault rather than barred outright.
If you or a family member has been seriously injured, we offer free and confidential consultations at all three of our offices or by phone. You can also schedule a consultation online.

Generally two years from the date of injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. Different rules can apply to claims involving minors or public entities, so confirm your specific deadline with a California-licensed attorney.
Claims against public entities, including cities, counties, transit agencies and school districts, generally require an administrative claim within six months of the injury under Government Code section 911.2. That is far shorter than the two-year deadline, so speak with a lawyer quickly.
